Help please - I'm DESPERATE

Could someone please help me with this:

Find all the positive real numbers that satisfy the equation:

x.x^3/x=x^x/x

Thanks very much

a rational is a number that

a rational is a number that can be written as a simple fraction.  For example: 9 can be written as 9/1 and .25 can be writen as 1/4.

An irraional number is a number that CANNOT be written as a simple fraction, like pi or e.  Also many square roots of non-perfect squares are irrational, like the square root of 3.

Help with maths

You may need to talk this through with a teacher, or go to revision sessions after school if you're not comfortable with some of these maths questions.

You could also look through maths revision books if you are concerned with anything.

Try:

Past questions and exam papers.

Hope this will help!angel

Hi, Often the biggest problem

Hi, Often the biggest problem is figuring out exactly what the question is asking!  If I have understood it correctly you can simplify it to x^4=x^x there are two fairly obvious solutions to this equation one where x=4, then we have 4^4=4^4 which is obviously true.  The other solution is x=1.  In that case we have 1^4=1^1.  since 1 times 1 = 1 and similarly 1 times 1 times 1 times 1 = 1 1^4=1 and so does 1^1.  It is very unlikely that there will be any other positive real numbers satisfying this.  Note 0^0 is undefined because it essentially boils down to asking what is zero divided by zero and that way leads to trouble so x=0 isn't really a proper solution and anyway 0 isn't really a positive real number as it is neither positive nor negative being exactly the boundary between positive and negative numbers.

I hope that helps.
