hey guys...ive got a chemistry exam in jan and i really struggle with the balanced equations part of it. can anybody tell me an easy way to understand how to do it?? much love lozzy!:)<3

i struggled with balancing equations iswell but i found a technique (not found my teacher told me L)
basically you want to do this: lets take element x+ element y ----> element xy
X + Y2( ders a 2 cuz its a diatomic atom and the 2 in meant to be a small 2) ------> Xy
Now to balance write the elements under the arrow and write how much of each on both sides like this:
-->2<-X + Y ---> ->2<- XY
cuz ders 1 Y on the right side put a 2 so ders 2 Y on right and 2 X on the left,
but now ders 2 X on right and 1 on left so put 2 infront of X on the left to make it balanced!
BTW when u put a 2 infront of a molecule (eg 2Na) it means der are 2 molecules not 3 cuz of Na and then u put a 2Na. Practice this and then u will get the hang of it!!!!!!!!!!!

what you should already know is that atoms on one side MUST be equal to those on the other! ok i`ll use this as an example. H2SO4+ NAOH----->NASO4+H2O. So basically draw a line from under the arrow -splitting both sides in to two. once youve done that list the elements on both sides. H, S,O,NA then on the left hand side look at the numbers after the the symbol itself these refer to how many atoms. so Hydrogen has 2 write H=3, (ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE)!!!!! S=1,O=5 ETC. THEN DO THAT TO THE OTHER SIDE. MAKE SURE BOTH SIDES OF THE LINE ARE EQUAL TO EACH OTHER THEN FILL ALL THE NUMBERS IN-SIMPLES
