I have recently begun studying Great Expectations and I find it confusing in some places, although this site has a lot of useful english resources it has nothing on this book or the author Charles Dickens.
SO, i was wondering if anyone knows of a good website that has info on the story or the author or even both. Also any books that can be suggested would be helpful.
I am currently checkin book stores and libraries
PS - I doubt i can successfully read and remember the whole story if i read the novel sooo do i get a summarised edition that brings out the key points. would appreciate all replies and views
Yes, Great Expectations is a weighty novel, but there is a lot of material out there. I will get round to putting some Dickens material on here eventually, but obviously I'm putting up the most studied texts first.
Try wikipedia online, this will have a plot summary and links to other web-based resources and ideas.
Books you will find very helpful include Cliffs Notes (yellow cover, paper back)
Letts Explore
York Notes (I don't know if they do one, but it is likely).
There are film versions and play versions that simplify the text, but they do not do any justice to the langauge of Dickens, which is so vital. Obviously it depends whether you are studying this for GCSE or A Level.
Look for key themes, key characters, Dicken's style, what was going on at the time of writing the text. All will help focus you on the key examined issues.
HMMMMMMM!
U WILL BE CONFUSED IF U FOLLOWED MANY BOOKS
CUZ THEY HAVE DIFFERENT STYLE OF WRITING KAGOMEGIRL1

When I first did my report on Great Expectations by Charlse Dickens, i went to my school library and local library and gathered information out of his book and read his book and found usefull information on the internet, this is one main website that i had used to help me throughout the whole of my english coursework.
