The basics of probability is that it is the total number of desired outcomes vs. the total number of outcomes. So for a coin toss, if you want to know the probablility that it will be heads you take the number of desired outcomes in this case it is 1 (for heads) and the number of total outcomes is 2 (heads or tails)
If oyu are doing multiple instances that both have to be true, then you have to multiply the two probabliltities. For example, if you need to know the probability that both of two flips will be heads, then its 1/2*1/2=1/4
