It is very important as Clare tells of how he has walked here since being a boy ‘boyish walks’ he thinks of how he ‘mused the sunny hours away and thought of little things that children mutter o’er their play’. He was full of ‘joy’ as he observed ‘life’s little crowd’ such as the birds, insects and beasts of the fields.
