Answer

The opening lines are a typical opening question in an interview. All seems normal at this point. The second stanza, however, starts to satirise the interview and job application process, poking fun at the things that can and do happen in the world of work. The qualifications are not what the company requires and the question asked is for the person to defends their relevance. This immediately makes the candidate seem inadequate and ill equipped for the job.
