Midway was an incredible important battle. Midway, along with Guadalcanal, was the turning point of the US Vs. Japan war in the Pacific.
The Japanese designed Midway as a knock out blow against the 3 remaining American aircraft carriers in the Pacific. Ironically, Japan would suffer the defeat. Because of American decoding, superior aircraft searches, excellent dive bombing, thought out but risky air attacks, Japanese arrogance, and just plain luck, the American's scored an enormous victory.
