Explaining security of attachment

  • Bowlby’s theory (see section later). Secure attachment is the result of sensitive and responsive caregiving.
  • Temperamental hypothesis. Kagan (1982) suggested that some children areinnately more vulnerable to stress due to inherited temperamental differences.Such differences mean that some children are less easy to care for and maternalrejection leads to insecure attachment.
