The examiner is looking for you to show that you understand firstly the character of Atticus and secondly Atticus influence on the novel.

Plan

1 – Introduction

What are you going to do? You are going to argue either for or against this statement E.g In this essay I am going to explore the fact that Atticus is the most important character in the novel.

2 – Atticus

Explore Atticus’ character.

 What is he like?

Make reference to his words and actions which show his character.

Consider his relationship with his children and his support of Tom Robinson.

3 - Atticus as the voice of the author

Consider Atticus as the voice of Harper Lee, consider Atticus ideas that show equality and fairness.

We do see the morals of the novel through Atticus’ lessons and Scout’s point of view.

4 – For or Against

This is where you need to argue for or against the statement do you believe Atticus is the most important?

Or do you think Scout is more important?

Or maybe another character.

5 – Conclusion

Come to a firm conclusion do you or do you not agree with the statement?

To what extent do you or do you not agree?
