The examiner is looking for you to show that you understand the importance of the courtroom scene, that you understand its impact on the characters and how it shows inequality.

Plan

1 – Introduction

What are you going to do? You are going to explore the court room scene and its importance in the novel. You are going to do this by looking at characters and the effect it has on characters, and by considering what the court room tells the reader about inequality.

2 – Characters

Who is involved in the court room? Jem, Scout, Atticus, Tom, Ewells.

What impact does the scene have on each character? – Maybe focus on one or two.

Why is this impact so important?

3 - What happens?

 What happens in the scene?

How do the events of this scene have an impact on its characters?

4 – Prejudice and inequality

 What does this scene tell you about prejudice and inequality in society.

Does this scene show how prejudice people are? Or not?

Consider why Tom was found guilty, did he deserve it?

5 – Conclusion

Come to a firm conclusion sum up your analysis by explaining why the court room scene is so important to the novel and its characters.
