The examiner is looking for you to show that you understand the character of Candy.

They also want to see that you understand the idea of sympathy.

You will have to develop an argument of whether or not you agree with the statement.

Consider Candy as a character, what is he like?

How does he behave?

Consider his words and actions and what they tell us about his character.

3 - Candy’s Situation

Consider Candy’s situation and how Candy’s situation is perceived by others.

Do you feel sympathy for his situation?

Or do you feel sympathy for his character?

4 – How others react

Consider examples of how Candy reacts to other characters and how others react to him and his situation.

Select specific and relevant examples which show your response to Candy and whether or not you should have sympathy for him.

5 – Conclusion

Come to a firm conclusion do you or do you not agree with the statement?
