Analysis

This carries on where The Little Boy Lost left off.

The scene is set again in the first line, with the boy lost in a lonely fen. He is led by the light, which moves slowly ‘wandering’ and is personified as if a guiding force for him.

He begins to cry, but God intervenes ands appears like his father, in white, a colour which represents purity and light, perhaps hope.

He leads his son to his mother, who is full of sorrow as she was looking for her lonely boy.

There could be a religious theme to the poem, as God left Jesus in the wilderness for 40 days to prepare for his death and he could be the little boy lost.

There are a number of possibilities as to what the poem is saying.

There is a sense that God will help those in distress. We can be metaphorically lost to our parents after a fight or argument, but this can be solved and all can be well again.
