Answer

This simple poem reflects on how war is meaningless and destroys our values and how we are changed because of war. In the final stanza he describes war as ‘quaint and curious’ which makes it seem like a silly thing, but not too horrible. This is ironic as we know that war is a terrible thing and has been for the other man that he killed. It shows how crazy the war is and how it can destroy innocent lives, the lives of 2 people who, it is repeated at the end, would have normally had a chat and a pint together.
