He was a child (a kid) and it comes from his perspective on his father. The word Kid is often used in the Batman cartoons as a friendly term meaning ‘mate’, often Batman would use this to Robin, just as his father would try to be his son’s ‘mate’.

You could say that in this poem the kid bites back!
