Their bodies seem to have become lifeless in stanza 3 ‘pasty bloodless smiles’ ‘slack breasts’ ‘stunned brains’ ‘baldness’ all show the decline of the human body, losing its colour and firmness that once it had when young; the brain no longer works and hair has gone.

There is a fear that we will all be like this one day ‘we are almost these monsters’. He sees these people as monsters, as if they are not people and yet thinks that he could soon be like this too.
