The genitive case

1. This is the case of possession and is used where we use apostrophe ‘s’ in English. e.g. Das Buch des Mannes – the man’s book, Das Haus der Familie – the family’s house

2. It is also used after certain prepositions e.g. wegen der Hitze – because of the, heatwährend meines Urlaubs – during my holiday.
