Welded Sculpture
Another ambitious technique you may choose to include in your A-Level portfolio project is welding. Welding involves the joining of metals in various forms to create a sculpture.
Richard Hunt is a famous American award-winning sculptor, noted for his use of metal and particularly welding in his work using aluminium, copper, bronze and steel. Hunt often uses humour in his work, commonly reshaping parts of old mechanisms and vehicles. Click here.
This is another potentially dangerous form where welding metals is required, however that shouldn’t dispel you from experimenting with basic modelling materials and mimicking the results. Hot glue guns and wood or other materials can be used in place and perhaps even painted to achieve a faux welded piece where actual welding is not possible and evidencing this in your portfolio, marks should be awarded for intentions and development of the idea so be sure to include this in your working diary.
