How will you be tested?

A2 and Synoptic assessment

After having studied AS History, you may wish to continue studying History to A Level. For this you will need to take three further units of History at A2. Similar assessment arrangements apply except that some units, those that draw together different parts of the course in a ‘synoptic’ assessment, have to be assessed at the end of the course.

Coursework

Coursework may form part of your A Level History course, depending on which specification you study. At AS Level it is an option for Edexcel candidates. If your course includes coursework, follow closely the advice of your teacher and make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to complete the assignment, especially if you have to submit coursework in other subjects.

Key skills

It is important that you develop your key skills throughout your AS and A2 courses. These are important skills that you need whatever you do beyond AS and A Levels. To gain the key skills qualification, which is equivalent to an AS Level, you will need to collect evidence together in a ‘portfolio’ to show that you have attained Level 3 in Communication, Application of number and Information technology. You will also need to take a formal testing in each key skill. You will have many opportunities during AS History to develop your key skills in Communication and Information technology.

It is a worthwhile qualification, as it demonstrates your ability to put your ideas across to other people, collect data and use up-to-date technology in your work.
