What skills will I need?

For AS History, you will be tested by assessment objectives: these are the skills and abilities that you should have acquired by studying the course. The assessment objectives for AS History are shown below.

Historical knowledge and understanding

• recall, select and deploy historical knowledge accurately, and communicate knowledge and understanding of history in a clear and effective manner

Historical explanations

• present historical explanations showing understanding of appropriate concepts and arrive at substantiated judgements

Historical interpretation

In relation to historical context:

• interpret, evaluate and use a range of source material
• explain and evaluate interpretations of historical events and topics studied.

Assessment of your work will also take into account the quality of your written communication, including clarity of expression, structure of arguments, presentation of ideas, spelling, grammar and punctuation. This will not be awarded separate marks but will be assessed as part of the first assessment objective.
