Deviance beyond the Athlete

Athletes are not the only people in sport to violate norms: Coaches hit players, sexually harass women, treat athletes inhumanely, etc.

Owners violate antitrust laws, mislead city officials and voters, etc.

Judges and officials take bribes and make agreements with others that influence outcomes

Managers and staff ignore dynamics of race and ethnicity in the recruiting and promotion processes

Media promoters and commentators deliberately distort and misrepresent sport events to get high t.v. ratings and newspaper/magazine sales

Agents mislead athletes, misrepresent themselves and violate rules

Parents berate, taunt, fight referees and other players

Spectators throw objects onto the field of play, verbally attack athletes, fight one another
