Problems deciding between Individual and Situational Explanations.
- People are often unable to tell you whether their behaviour comes from them self or the situation. This means you can not simply ask people to explain their behaviour.
- Behaviour is likely to come from both the individual and the situation
- When researching whether behaviour comes from the individual or the situation it is very difficult to separate the two factors. You can not take away all of an individuals past experiences and personality even in the most controlled experiment.
- Researching whether it is the individual or the situation controlling behaviour could lead to some ethical problems. For instance it would be unethical to take two people with similar personalities and expose them to various distressing situations and watch how they respond.
