Old Major summons the animals and sows the seeds of revolution.

He uses simple language and slogans to illustrate his points that the animals are exploited by Jones. This is effective as all animals understand his rhetoric.

The pigs are at the front and the scuffle with the dogs suggest that all animals are not, in fact, equal and there are clear differences between them.

Old Major ignores the fact that animals are different in that some are more intelligent than others and some are predators.

He is idealistic and fails to understand the practicalities and problems associated with a revolution.
