She is the model mother (line 8) (‘yours’ means Armitage is speaking in the third person, he is probably writing about his partner’s mother (see question on the significance of the third stanza), although it could be an experience based on someone else he knows). She tells off the child and ‘points the finger’ of blame for damaging the yellow jacket.

The father comes to ‘set things straight’ at the end of the third stanza. He is not angry, it seems, like the mother, but wants to sort things out.
