The opening stanza describes an experience of a trust exercise where one person falls backwards, trusting those behind them to stop them for hitting the floor. This is like her parents who protect her from the difficulties of life.

The jacket represents the comfort of home, the trust she has for her parents who help and guide her. Only when she runs away, briefly, does she feel lost. It is telling that she does not run far away as she feels comfortable at home, or is weak and does not have the strength of will to run further away.
