John Keats (1795–1821) was an English Romantic poet whose work, though written in a brief career, has had an enduring impact on English literature. Born in London to a working-class family, Keats faced many personal hardships, including the early death of both his parents. He studied to be a surgeon, but his passion for poetry ultimately led him to abandon medicine in favour of writing.
