Thomas Hardy (1840–1928) was an English novelist and poet, best known for his evocative depictions of rural life in Victorian England and his exploration of themes such as fate, love, and social constraints. Born in Higher Bockhampton, Dorset, Hardy was the son of a stonemason and grew up in a rural environment that greatly influenced his work.
